Speaking English is just a cup of tea!
Speaking English is just a cup of tea!
Most of us think English is a subject, not a language,
so teaching it accordingly. Then we expect that we will have good results. But
it might have been finished not learned. When I think of teaching English, I
always look at a child and how he learns his mother tongue. His mother tongue
means his mother language which he listens to, not his mother speaking all the
time and his father just listening. He makes mistakes while learning it. So, we
have to keep in mind that learning English is not a subject but a purely
language.
As we are second language learners, we never speak at
the society and workplace. That’s why, we fear speaking outside of the
classroom. As a result, we never practise it or realise what errors we make in
day-to-day situations. Therefore we have to start speaking it outside such as
market place, garden, railway station, playground, library and other places.
Once we start speaking it, we will indeed have confidence and better knowledge.
After that, we at least try to speak the English
language all the time as we do in our mother tongue. Even we have to speak it
slowly and in short sentences. Further, we can practise speaking on simple
topics such as family including mother and father, friends, school, hobbies,
likes and dislikes, festivals, sports and many more. In this way, we slowly and
gradually enhance our speaking abilities in English.
Nowadays, we see English everywhere like hoarding,
banners on the light poles, advertisements on the roof, slogans on the walls
notice boards and newspaper headings. On the other hand, we keep simple words
power which can help us to communicate with others. These are simple verbs; go,
play, speak, drink, eat, like, watch, help and many more.
Let’s begin with it and have sound confidence in daily
life. Then, we can practise some dialogue such as "How are you? What are
you doing? Where are you going? Thank you, hello, excuse me, sorry, it’s my pleasure, it’s okay,
yes, no and don’t worry". Keeping these dialogues in daily situations we
can easily practise the English language and get command of it by the time.
