Mystery Box
Once upon time, there was a haunted house in the
countryside. Nobody was ready to go there as everyone knew about its past. The
people believed that it was haunted by the ghost. But one day, John ,a boy from
nearby came across there and saw a red box. Being curious , slowly and
gradually , he went near to it and touched it, but the door at once opened .
and he was pulled inside. He was in the darkness and started fearing. Hearing
the strange sound , but didn’t locate it from where it was coming. He was
totally afraid and perspiring. He didn’t find the way out. The door was also
automatically locked.
So he began crying
and the night set in.He was totally helpless and waiting for someone to come.
That person could open , but nobody turned up. By the time , he was fatigued and
mentally shaken. He had tears on his cheek, it dried up on his face. It
seemed that he had been weeping for long time. Then he was not able to utter a
single word.
He started banging the door. Still no
one was there, outside only the red box was there. Slowly the door started to
bang as if it begged a passerby and asking him to open. But every one knew that
it was haunted. Hence no one liked to come at that area. John was desperately
waiting and the door was clanging, banging continuously. And the surrounding
fell silent.
Simultaneously the red
box tried to say something by moving a little bit due to wind. Might be It
needed to open itself , even John was inside and nobody there. Again it was
rolling here and there because of swift wind. Nearby an owl was sitting in a
tree and looking at it with its sharp eyes. The wind also stopped blowing and
became stagnant. By the time, John fell down , unconscious and lifeless. But
the owl looked around and flew over the box, tried to shake it. it moved a
little ahead and rolled down a few step. Again the bird returned at it and
pushed it. All of sudden , as if thunder in the sky, it opened and something
like figure came out, went toward the sky. That disappeared in the dark. The
bird also frightened of the figure and immediately it flew at its nest. The
figure was like the ghost and it was in the sky.
Automatically the door was opened. Unconsciously John was there and
unaware of his freedom. No one was there to wake him up. At same time the
figure began laughing loudly and merrily in the sky. As if he got liberty from
the clutches of magical power.
At the
dawn, the countryside people gathered there while passing by and shocked to see
John. In hurry they sent for his parents who tirelessly searched everywhere. At
first they were not ready to wake him up as they were thinking of some magic or
the ghost. But someone in the crowd yelled out,
“ Awake him”, then
they awoke him and showered a lot of
questions. “ what happened to you ?”, a tall man asked. But he replied nothing.
“ How did you come
here?” , interrupted by an old man. He told only about the red box and was
pushed by someone as soon as he touched it.
He
narrated whole story how he came there and didn’t know what happened later on
after touching the red box. By the time , the villagers started murmuring one
another about the devil who , hundred years ago, started haunting the countryside and harassing the people.
Fortunately a sage of that area put a magic over him and kept in the red box
after catching him. Since that time he had been suffering inside, asking the
people to free him from that box. That ‘s why he haunted and harassed the
place.
On that day he
somehow saved himself and ran away in the sky. Disappearing and perhaps decided
not to haunt the countryside. Because he got enough punishment. The people
thanked that he would not return. Half of them went to farm and remaining to
home. Happily they walked and at last got rid of the devil as well as haunted
house. The mystery box was lying opened there. Nobody knew what to do with it!
