 Tense and the exercise

Main three tenses

1)  Present tense:- ( Is, am , are)

I am…………..

We are…………

You are………..

He is……..

She is…….

It is……..

They are the students

2)  Past tense ( Was, were)

I was a student of decent child school

We were…….

You were……

He was…….

She……..

It was…..

They were the students.

3)  Future tense ( shall, will)

I shall speak English

We shall speak English

You will take a book.

He will like an apple

She will buy a car.

It will fly in the sky.

They will bring a bag.

 

Types of the present tense

1)  Simple present tense

Usage: daily, daily routine

Words used: always, often , every day

Rule: subject + V1 first form of the verb + subject

I speak Hindi every day

We like an apple

You go to school every day

He likes an apple

She prepares dinner

It flies in the sky

They play cricket

 

Note:- He / she/ it takes e/es with main verb

    He drives a car

    She makes a cup of tea

Do/Does used for negative sentences

Do: I , we, you , they

Does: he, she, it

Ex:- you do not like an orange

        She does not speak English

        He does not go to school every day

        They do not take a book

2)  Present continuous tense

Used: when action is going on at that time

Used words: now. Nowadays, presently 

Rule:-subject +is/am/are+ V1 +ing +object

I am going to Mumbai now

We are writing a book nowadays

You are watching a movie

He is driving a car

She is making breakfast

It is sitting on a table

They are using the place

3)  Present perfect tense

Used: Action is completed at that used

Words: just now, recently

Rule: subject+ have / has + V3 third form of the verb + object

I have sold my car

We have given a party

You have gone to Mumbai just now

He has returned home

She has played cricket

They have purchased a building

4)  Present perfect continuous tense

Used: action is started in the past and continuous in the present situation

Words used: Since , for

Rule: Subject +have/has +been + V1+ing +object

I have been living in Surat since 2005

We have been reading a book since early morning

You have been driving a car for three years

He has been studying in Decent child school since 2020

She has been visiting the place for last three years

They have been taking English seriously for many years

 

2) Simple Past tense

Words used : last day, yesterday

Used: when action is finished in near past at that time the simple past is used

Rule:-  subject+ V2 second form of the verb+ object

I played cricket

We watched a movie

He completed his work

She made dinner after her family had come

They liked an idea

 

Negative sentences

Did not :- didn’t

He didn’t like an idea

They didn’t like an idea

She didn’t make dinner after her family had come

 

·      Past continuous tense

Rule : subject + was /were+V1+ing + object

 

I was reading a book at 9 yesterday

She was taking round of her house yesterday

They were playing cricket last Sunday

He was watching television

You were writing a letter

·      Past perfect tense

Used : this tense is used for complete past situation

 

Rule: subject + had + V3 third form of the verb+ object

I had done my project before my firend came

They had taken a loan after the bank approved

We had celebrated Diwali at Saputara last year

 

·      Past perfect continuous tense

Rule:- Subject +had+been+V1 +ing+ object

I had been reading that book for many years

They had been living in USA for last ten years

He had been studying English for three years

 

* Future tense

1)  Simple future tense 

Used : near future

Rule:- subject + shall/will+V1 + object

I shall use a car next time

We shall like a fruit

You will do the job

He will speak English one day

She will make a cake for her son’s birthday

 

Will not:- won’t

Shall not:- shan’t

2)  Future continuous tense

Used :- at specific time the future action happens

Rule:- Subject+ shall/will+be+V1+ing +object

I shall be taking a project at 10 tomorrow

We shall be doing building work at 8 this Sunday

You will be reading a book in third period

3)  Future perfect tense

Rule:- Subject +shall / will+have + V3 third form of the verb +object

I will have done my diploma by 2025

They will have married by 2022

He will have shifted to America by 2024

4)  Future perfect continuous tense

This tense is not used for speaking and writing
