Children are natural learners!

Children are natural learners!

As we know, children learn fast and well. In that regard, I designed a writing activity for 5th-grade Gujarati medium students. They are second-language learners. They face problems learning the English language. They apply translation methods to learn English. Next, they make up English words and dialogues. These are a few things done by either them or a teacher.

But yesterday, I assigned them a write-up on My Spoken English Teacher. They were told to write either in Gujarati or English and to write anything about the teacher. Then I started taking rounds and observed them. They asked a few questions regarding me. Surprisingly, they were engaged with one another in asking for spellings and sentences. They started learning naturally about the English language. The entire class was involved in creating an English-language atmosphere.

Consequently, most of them wrote in English. There was no doubt that they made mistakes in spelling and sentence structure. They were seen as happy, thoughtful, engaged, and enthusiastic about English language writing. Some of them showed me and asked for reading before the class. It showed that they were indeed interested in learning it.

In the end, they submitted their write-ups and requested me to read each one’s writing work. As a result, I also became happy and thoughtful about their learning style. Even how they interacted with one another, further they completed the writing task as a painstaking task. They carried out it happily and naturally.

After the class, I slipped into the thought about how a small idea worked well in building teamwork, naturally learning, becoming thoughtful, self-motivated and much more. All of a sudden, I remembered children are natural learners.
