An Idea grabber day !
We English teachers at
Shri Sathya Sai Vidya Niketan organized day on ‘Creative ideas’. It was
conducted by some girls of 9th on 25 July, 2019, Thursday. They
named it as ‘We are the idea grabber’. Especially it was organized in order to
make the learners thoughtful, creative, and innovative. Not only the learners
but also the teachers took part.
Initially these girls prepared a decorated box
with the title on it from all sides. It had a small hole and the students were
supposed to drop their ideas in. Then they started to take round of 5 to 12
classes. One of them instructed the students that they had to find any idea
which could help the school, the society, and the nation. After 10 minutes they
had to drop it into the box. Through that activity they could see a change.
Even they would feel proud of contributing something to their surroundings. So
they had to apply their thinking and imaginative skill.
In this way these girls
of 9th began the activity and observed the students. They noticed
that the students were confused about it and had question of what they had to
write. Some of them kept thinking for writing. , others were stuck and didn’t
get easily the idea for writing. Some what they were seen to struggle in
finding it; however it was seemed to be an activity of brainstorming. What we
set the objectives; we were getting them through their thinking and writing.
Somewhere it erased mechanical learning and made them creative.
We observed keenly that
the students didn’t get actual meaning of given instruction. They just noted down
the suggestions and the advices. They wrote down that they should or shouldn’t
do that. Somewhere they didn’t get the clarity of the activity. However we were
satisfied that they at least started to think over what ideas were. In our view
it was taken as success.
Further they became
happy as soon as they wrote something great or new idea. The girls also
announced that best one would be announced and likely appreciated at the
assembly. Though the activity was small but it brought change in routine. It prepared
the learners for leadership, thinking mode, creative bent of mind, and going out of
the routine. It not only forced them to think deeply but also to be contented.
In the end of day, we teachers extended thanks
to these girls for initiative. Some of
other teachers congratulated them on their achievement. At last they did
something new and innovative activity. We left with the message, ‘Happy doing
and happy learning!’
