Expectations of instant result by the parents.

Once parents of the school child came at the reception and inquired about the principal. They wanted to meet him regarding their child’s progress. Having some doubt they turned up there and raised the questions over it. But the receptionist kept them to wait for some time. At that time I was in the principal’s office and had very urgent work. So I could not leave the place. I heard their concern, as soon as they entered there.
At first they took seat and drank a glass of water offered by the principal. Slowly the father of the child, who was studying in 3rd standard, started to pent up his emotion that his child didn’t get English language. The principal asked them what the child didn’t understand. It was either speaking or reading or anything else. The mother also said that he didn’t understand anybody’s English and even he didn’t speak it at all. Further she added that he was confused whenever somebody conversed with him.
We both listened to them in a rapt attention. We came to notice that they had very high expectations from their own child and school. The father again raised his doubt over system. He furiously asked, “What is use of his child to study at English medium school if he didn’t speak English?” In a short they showed their discontentment. The principal called the child in and asked few questions to him. At first he greeted him, then put question to him what time he got up that day. The answer was immediately given by the boy. He got up at 6. After that he was asked what story book he liked most. He replied that he liked the story of Akbar and Birbal. The parents stunned at him and didn’t say anything. Later on they left the office without saying any word and the principal also said nothing. But the picture was clear to them.
The parents expect the child’s progress as the Xerox machine does the photocopy. They expect that ten years progress should have taken place in a few days. They put such high expectations in form of instant result, quick mind development, to be the celebrity or sport person. If the child has capacity of carrying 2 kg, but they will deliberately load 10 kg upon him. So it is obvious that the bag would tear out and all the things to be fallen down. In a course of time they create a fuss for all.
Once the great thinker and poet Khalil Gibran said,
“Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of the life’s longing for itself.”
