1)    Convert the following passage into reporting speech

A)  She had been old and wrinkled for the twenty years that I had known her. People said that she had once been young and pretty and had even had a husband, but that was hard to believe. My grandfather’s portrait hung above the mantelpiece in the drawing-room. He wore a big turban and loose-fitting clothes. His long, white beard covered the best part of his chest and he looked at least a hundred years old.

B)   The family protested, tried to stop her but she lay peacefully on her bed, chanting prayers and doing her beads. Suddenly, she stopped and the rosary fell from her lifeless fingers

ANS: He said that the family had protested and tried to stop her but she had laid peacefully on her bed with chanting prayers and doing her beads. Suddenly she had stopped and the rosary had fallen from her lifeless fingers.

2)    Do as directed: 

A) You should have known many stories of this sort. (Add a question tag)

ANS: You should have known many stories of this sort, Shouldn't you?

B) I am so proud that you have achieved something for India.  (Use ‘too’)

ANS: I am too proud about you to achieved something for India.

C) If there are such men I want them to speak out. (Use ‘No sooner’)

ANS: No sooner do there are men than i want them to speak out.

D) No one had seen it actually.                                (Change the voice.)

ANS: It had been seen by no one actually. 

E) They liked a book. (Add a question tag)

ANS: They liked a book, Didn't they?

F) You have taken a loan (Change the voice)

ANS: A loan has been taken by you.

G) He is too weak to get up early. ( Remove ‘ Too….to)

ANS: He is so weak that he cannot get up early.

H) I am a good student. ( Add the question tag)

ANS: I am a good student, Aren't I?
