Speech Writing

  Speech Writing:

  1. In school assembly hall, you are going to deliver a speech on cleanliness. Draft a speech using the given points in about 100 words.

Ans. Good morning Principal ma'am, respected sirs, teachers and my dear friends.

I am Rahul Pancholi, studying in standard 12, would like to speak on cleanliness. I am very great full to my class teacher that she has given me such a great opportunity to recite a speech on cleanliness at this event.

My dear friends, we all are good people, no one is bad. Then why we are making our future bad and diseased by spreading dirty things and wastes everywhere. Our country is our home, we should not make it dirty. We get respect as an Indian in the abroad so our country is our identity on this planet. It is our responsibility to keep it clean and bright so that it can earn more respect worldwide. We keep our homes clean then why not our schools, college, roads, offices, tourist places, stations, etc. All through the country. We only remember that we have to clean a place where we live, means a home only. But why we do not remember that our country is our main home. Our home is our identity the country means in abroad. We are responsible citizens of it then we have to make it clean and no one else. In order to get respect from others, first we have to respect our property and keep it clean. We keep our homes and religious places clean and do not wear shoes or slippers, we follow wrong practices and spit out on the roads, corners of office building etc. We throw wastes on the roads or corners of the colony; what is this? I am asking what this is. I saying that I am only good or I never involved in such activities. I am just saying that how long we will be conscious every moment trying to keep our surroundings clean. If we are not trying to keep our country clean, then how we will protect tourists from other countries from making it dirty. I think, none of the day is better than today. Today is the day when we should promise ourselves and our mother country that we will keep it clean forever and never make it dirty in future. Just think how bright our homes and whole country look at Diwali, what will happen if it looks the same daily. If the cleanliness only at Diwali can give us confidence, power and positive energy for the whole year, then again think that can we not get power, confidence, positive energy, a healthy life, a healthy environment and positive attitude of other countries worldwide forever.

Thank you.

 2. Pranav has been elected as the General secretary of his school. He is to deliver a speech on his plans and how he is going to fulfill them. Draft a speech for him in 100 words.

Ans. Dear friends,

First of all, U would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all of you for electing me as the General Secretary. I take it as your obligation on me and I would like to repay it by carrying out everything that is within my capacity. Well, I have thought out certain plans that are very much required to get fulfilled. Some of the demands among are long-standing. First of all, sanitation facilities to be increased and improved. For the lack of water supply, the flush system do not work and the toilet blocks keep very dirty and stinking. Secondly, we want more fans in certain lecture halls. Then we do not have enough sitting arrangement in our library. The library should have net browsing facility too and that too in four sets. As far as sports are concerned, we have got a large playground, but there are no specially developed volleyball or basketball courts. We need them badly. We do not have cricket kits too. Besides all this, we hardly have cultural activities and celebration  of days are also banned in our school. I will surely go to the principal with these proposals and see that they are all granted, so that we can have better facilities and advantageously occupying activities. What I need is your support and cooperation.

Thank you all. Jai Hind. Vande Mataram.

  3. Miss Darpana Thakar wants to deliver a speech on 'Problems of Working Women' on International Women's Day. Draft the speech on her behalf in about 100 words using the given points.

Ans. Good afternoon everybody,

Hi ! I am Darpana Thakar.  Wish you all a very happy International Women's Day.

I think this is the right time to talk about problems of working women and brood over their solutions as far as possible. Let's put it this way:

The term 'Liberated Woman' has a become a fashion today. The term chiefly implies a woman who is independent economically. For other things, at least in India, a woman still needs the anchor of a husband and a family. She cannot be liberated in matters of marriage, family or other things. Otherwise she would be called a loose woman. When we consider the problems of a working woman in our society, her domestic life comes to mind immediately. What is a modern working woman like?

A working woman today belongs to the middle or the lower middle class or society. Women in the higher echelons or society need not work for a living. If they do work, they do it only due to personal interest. Even otherwise, they do not lead much of a domestic life: household chores are relatively unknown to them. A middle or lower middle class working women is not at all liberated woman. In fact, she has to keep struggling to sail in two boats at the same time. She has to work in an office or in an organization full-time. Often she is sniggered at; people make passes at her and criticize her work simply because she happens to be a woman. How so ever hard-working and conscientious she might be in her work, there are people ready to pounce upon her and find faults with her in order to harass her if she does not submit to their advances. And the poor woman cannot even report against these people for fear of losing her job or of her reputation. She, indeed, has to keep walking on a razor's edge all the time.

Her domestic life is also tedious. She does not get any reprieve from household work because of her regular office job. She has to get up early in the morning to finish her house hold chores, get the children ready for school, prepare breakfast and lunch for her husband and school going children, clean the house and perform several other household chores before she is ready to leave for her office. The western concept of a husband helping his wife in domestic work because she is a working woman has not taken deep roots in this country yet. When she comes back dog tired in the evening, the working woman has to look after the needs of her children and husband, prepare dinner, look after guests and try to look pleasant all the time. Nobody bothers to find out if she is ailing or in a foul mood. Everyone wants his or her requirements to be met. Nobody shows any consideration for the poor working woman. That is, by and large, the plight of an ordinary working woman in our society today. She is sandwiched between the two worlds, both of which expect the best out of her. She is reduced to a virtual robot, trying to perform her functions and duties to the best of her abilities. We betides her if she falters even once or strays from the set path.

A working woman finds it difficult to lead a blissful domestic life. There are families where the husband and wife do all the work together. But in majority of the families it is not so. It is time we give some attention to the poor, harassed working woman who also bears the burden of domestically. It lies with her husband and her family to help lighten her burden and assist her in leading a normal, happy life.

 4. You are going to deliver a speech on 'Say No to Poly Bags' in your school assembly. Draft a speech using the given points in about 100 words.

Ans :- Respected Principal, honourable teachers and my dear schoolmates.

             Good afternoon everybody,

Today I am going to talk on a great threat to the world these days, and that is menace of poly bags.

Poly bags are considered to be a wonderful invention of science. They are light, cheap, waterproof and non-teasing nature and virtue of these qualities they have very conveniently replaced the cloth, jute and paper bags in our day-to-day life. However, all of us seem to ignore the hazardous aspects of using poly bags. Poly bags have become such a significant part of our life that we hardly ever become think of saying no to poly bags despite all the hazards of using them.

Use of poly bags has been causing immense harm to the environment. Millions of poly bags are being used for time periods ranging from a few minutes to a few hours and once their utility is over, they are thrown away to clog drains and choke soil. Hot edible items put in or stored in poly bags results in contamination of the food items and consumption of such food items can adversely affect the human health. Many a time, littering of poly bags here and there causes animals to eat those and get choked to death. Clogging of drains due to poly bags can cause overflowing of rainwater thereby giving rise to an unclean and unhygienic situation. Being non-porous and also non-biodegradable poly bags obstruct the free flow of water and air. Poly bags also contain toxic chemicals. Thus, they choke the soil and suffocate the roots of plants. Poly bags are thrown on the ground, the toxic chemicals additives leach the soil thereby rendering the soil infertile, where plants stop growing. Poly bags also cause the problem of water-logging and such water logging has been known to trigger landslides in hilly areas. Being non-biodegradable, poly bags take a huge number of years to get decomposed.

So, what is the solution? The most convenient and alternative opinion would be to use a cloth or jute bag while we move out of our homes. Bags made of cloth or jute are eco-friendly and easy to carry. There should impose a ban on the use of poly bags . It is important that we save our world from the menace of poly bags. Otherwise, the day is not far when we will have a planet without any plants and animals, and of course, human beings. Let's all say a big 'No' to poly bags.

Ans:- As NCC secretary of our village, I am very pleased to inform you that our village has undertaken campaign for cleanliness fortnight 15 August to 30 August. During this fortnight we have to clean our entire village as well as we have to appeal villagers to keep their surroundings clean. Friends, we all know that cleanliness is next to godliness. Man can work well, if surroundings are clean. Clean village is  a happy and healthy village. A clean home is a happy home. Do we all know this? But how many of us really follow it? How many of us keep houses, lanes, streets, surroundings, clean? Do we really feel concerned? Is it fair? Our surroundings have become breeding ground for germs, diseases, epidemics, pollution, etc. Due to these hygienic conditions dangerous diseases like typhoid, cholera, flu are spreading.   7. Prepare a speech in about 100 words to be delivered by you in class on the occasion of Independence Day.

Ans:- Respected Guests and teachers, My dear friends,

This is a very special and important day for us. On this day we remember those who fought for our freedom. On this day our National Flag flies atop all important buildings and institutions.

I believe that Independence Day is a day when we need to pledge ourselves to the nation. It is a day when we need to make fresh commitments to all the ideals of our Constitution; ideals such as freedom, justice, equality and brotherhood. It is a day when we need to put to test whether we truly follow these ideals.

Let us carry forward the torch of freedom. Let us in fact be soldier's who will fight against the evils that this nation now faces; evil such as terrorism, communalism, corruption, poverty, superstition and illiteracy. Only when these evils are overcome, will our nation be truly free.

Jai Hind!

  8. Write a portion of speech of about 100 words given by a student in an elocution competition on 'The State of Democracy in India today'.

Ans:- Honourable Judges, respected teachers and dear friends.

Unfortunately, democracy in India today does not work the way it should. It is limited to the day when the masses go to the polling booths and cast their votes. Then they return to their routine lives.

Most people do not actively participate in serious social issues. They do not react to the injustices happening around. Many among us do not bother to raise our voice against the corrupt practices going on around us. Casting our votes once in five years or so is not the sole idea of being a responsible citizen. A citizen should be always vigilant. Likewise, we also need a responsible media to expose those who are corrupt. Further, the people's representatives should realize that they are accountable to the voters. Only if all these things work together then only can we reap the real fruits of democracy.

      Thank you.

 9. Your college has organized an elocution contest on the subject 'Save Trees, Trees  Save ', as part of the World Environment Day. Prepare a speech of about 100 words to be delivered on the occasion.

Ans:-  Honourable Judges, respected teachers and dear friends.

'World Environment Day' is not just about environment. It reminds us of our very precarious existence on the Planet Earth. Perhaps even the very existence of Planet Earth itself. The all-important question now is: Who will save us from this impending calamity? Yes, trees can save us, provided we save the trees. So we say : 'Save Trees, Trees  Save'.

For the past 200-300 years, we have been destroying our forests wantonly. And now we are paying the heavy price for that. Now there is no time to wait and watch. Now is the time to act.

We know the role of trees in keeping the ecological balance. We know how important trees are for the existence of varied life forms. It is not that we are ignorant of these things. It is that we lack the initiative. We think that others will take care of such matters. No, every ONE of us is personally answerable to the coming generations. Every ONE of us must do our bit to save trees to save ourselves and our future generations. Let's now say in one voice: 'SAVE TREES, TREES SAVE'.

   Thank you.
